GREAT PYRENEES AKITAS AND SHIBA INUS.

OUR AKITA STORY:

Hello from the beautiful San Francisco Bay Area in No. California. Actually, we're located in Campbell (South Bay!)

Guess I should start at the beginning. Through my parents, Moes and Dorothy Yamashita, I fell in love with the Akita breed. I had grown up with 11 different breeds. Being Japanese, my father had wanted an Akita for years. They purchased their first Akita in 1978 and, as a family activity, we enjoyed showing and having fun taking points with puppies and finishing two AKC champions from their first litter, breeder-owner-handled . . . pretty good for beginners!

Candidly, there is no breed like the Akita. I would like to take this opportunity to briefly state (IMHO) that they are as powerful as they are beautiful and as stubborn as they are smart and ownership of an Akita should NOT be taken lightly. If you are not prepared to make the Akita a member of your family, look elsewhere. If you are prepared, they will return your love and affection a thousand fold!

Chuck became an AKC licensed judge back in 1977. Currently, in the United States, he is licensed to judge the entire Working Group, Herding Group, Best in Show and breeds in three other groups (10 Sporting, 2 Non-Sporting 1 Hound and 1 Toy).

He is also an all breed judge for the China Kennel Association and Kennel Club Union of Asia and has judged all breeds in four countries in Asia and two in South America. Traveling, whether domestic or international, is his passion.

Chuck and I met . . . at a dog show of all places, and were married in 1982. Along with my parents, I had the kennel name of Yamashita's Akitas. Chuck started with the kennel name of Der Fer Great Pyrenees. We thought for a long time and couldn't combine both French and Japanese names for our kennel name. So, we decided upon 'C AND L' for Chuck and Lynn, and we are:
We enjoy showing our own dogs and have bred or owned over 60 champions. We finished the youngest Akita bitch to obtain her championship back in 1986, breeder/owner handled. Lynn also enjoys taking the dogs through obedience from time to time and has put several titles on our dogs.

We've finished dogs in the following breeds: Great Pyrenees, Akitas, Rottweilers, Pembroke Welsh Corgis, Shiba Inus, and Brussels Griffons. We breed on a limited basis Akitas, Great Pyrenees, and Shiba Inus.

We've been at our present location in Campbell, California since 1975. We have the luxury of a legal county health inspected kennel license. Our dogs enjoy the comfort of an air conditioned kennel, complete with indoor tile floors/outdoor concrete runs, and with 60' long exercise pens - they get a lot of exercise.

We've always advocated that the true AKITA breed type requires the BEAR head, small forward pitched, triangular shaped ears, and a large powerful substantial body with heavy bone. CH SHAKA KHAN, CD exemplifies the head we prefer (see pictures above and Shaka's pictures in Akita, Treasure of Japan on pages 148, 150 and 178, of his son CH. THE FONZ on page 167). In the World of the Akita, Shaka is featured winning one of his Award of Merits at the Akita National Specialty (page 259).

We have been members of the Golden Gate Akita Club since 1983. Lynn has served on the board for 6 years and currently serves as the President.

All dogs in our breeding program are x-rayed and radiologist cleared. After many years of breeding Akitas, we are totally dedicated to this breed and will continue to selectively place our dogs in loving homes.

WE ARE EXPECTING AN AKITA LITTER OUT OF OUR YOUNG WORKING GROUP PLACING LOCK AND LOAD AND OUR MAJOR POINTED FEMALE AT THE END OF OCT.

OUR GREAT PYRENEES STORY:

I fell in love with the Great Pyrenees back in 1961. That's when I saw my first picture of a majestic white giant and just knew I would get one some day.

Well, that day came in 1964 and I started with the kennel name of DE FER GREAT PYRENEES. My first dogs were not successful in the show ring. So, I decided I would breed for success, and my foundation bitch, properly bred, became a ROM by producing 6 champions from her first 2 litters.

In 1982 I was divorced and was lucky enough to meet my present wife, Lynn (pictured left), who along with her parents, had the kennel name of Yamashita's Akitas. Lynn's initial introduction into Great Pyrenees was two champions of my breeding.

We thought for a long time and couldn't combine both French and Japanese names for our kennel name. So, we decided upon 'C and L', for Chuck and Lynn and we are:
Striving to breed and present the best in TYPE AND MOVEMENT...

We enjoy showing our own dogs. Great Pyrenees that we've bred and owned were the top winning Great Pyrenees in Northern California for seven consecutive years. Lynn also enjoys taking the dogs through obedience from time to time and has put several titles on our dogs.

We've always advocated that the true GREAT PYRENEES breed type requires the BEAR HEAD and we do not agree with those who mistakenly think they should look like a Kuvasz. These people do a disservice to both breeds. We plan to continue with this concept in our present and future breedings.

Our dogs combine our own 'C and L' line with dogs from both Karolaska and Rivergroves. To see in pictures what I am talking about, please see my article (complete with photos) in the 1996 Great Pyrenees Annual. It came out in the Fall of 1997. For more pictures please check out our interview in the Great Pyrenees Annual 1991.

I have been a member of the Great Pyrenees Club of America, Inc. since 1966. All dogs in our breeding program are x-rayed and radiologist cleared. After 35 years of breeding Great Pyrenees, we are totally dedicated to this breed and will continue to selectively place our dogs in loving homes. "Show homes are good, but LOVING homes are best."

WE HAVE AN GREAT PYRENEES LITTER OUT OF BOTH CHAMPION PARENTS DUE EARLY NOV. FATHER CH. ANDI IS A CHAMPION PRODUCER AND HAS TEMPERAMENT TO DIE FOR.PICTURED STANDING ON MY WIFES' SHOULDERS.

OUR SHIBA INU STORY:

Our first Shiba was a pretty red imported from Japan. Unfortunately, she did not turn out to be the show specimen we wanted as the foundation bitch for our kennel.

However, her brief time with us endeared us to the breed and we fell in love with the Shiba Inu. By the way . . . she is living the good life on a 40 acre ranch, complete with ducks to play with and a big lake to play in.

Shortly thereafter we acquired "PUMPKIN" (pictured right) as our foundation bitch. Before the Shibas had gained AKC recognition, she acquired both her Shiba Ken and NSCA Championships. Soon after AKC recognition, Pumpkin acquired her AKC Championship in 2 weekends, and with 4 majors!

She has proven herself in the show ring, in our home as a great companion, and by producing several AKC championships AND IS A ROM PRODUCER.

We've always advocated that the true Shiba type requires the fox-like appearance, small ears, full cheeks and compact, well muscled frame. The proper Shiba to us is balanced in temperament and structure. Our Shibas are a combination of both the import Japanese and American types, predominately red and red sesame.

I became an AKC licensed judge in 1977. We have been a member of the National Shiba Club of America, Inc. since 1988.

All dogs in our breeding program are x-rayed and radiologist cleared.

After 11 years of breeding Shibas, we are totally dedicated to this breed and will continue to selectively place our dogs in loving homes.

WE HAVE SHIBA INU PUPPIES AVAILABLE AT THIS TIME FROM ALL CHAMPION PARENTS. THE FATHER CH. FUKU, OUR JAPANESE IMPORTED MALE HAS BEEN PRODUCING CHAMPIONS.
